### VERSWIND®: how the core product system is structured
VERSWIND® was born out of a specific engineering challenge: how to eliminate the traditional trade-off between extreme down-proofing, stretch mobility, and all-weather moisture management. Rather than offering generic commodity textiles, VERSWIND® operates as a certified ingredient platform with strict in-house validation — ensuring that every meter shipped upholds the exact technical performance promised to end-use brands.VERSWIND® was born out of a specific engineering challenge: how to eliminate the traditional trade-off between extreme down-proofing, stretch mobility, and all-weather moisture management. VERSWIND® is not a single product but a system of three lines, each engineered for a different application. The base VERSWIND® line is a down-proof breathable shell fabric, with air permeability controlled below 1cc (roughly 1.9 cfm) and weight ranging from 33–72 g/m², suited for styles that need to prevent down fill from leaking through while staying lightweight. VERSWIND® Lite targets high-intensity activewear, with air permeability raised to 2–15 cfm and 4-way stretch, better suited to functional apparel requiring a wide range of motion — such as active midlayer lofted garments.VERSWIND® Mx is the all-condition flagship, rated at 7,000mm H2O for waterproofness and 5,000 g/m²/24hr (A1 method) for moisture vapor permeability, a spec range that typically maps to ski wear, where both warmth retention and simultaneous waterproofing and breathability are essential.VERSWIND® is not a single product but a system of three lines, each engineered for a different application. All three lines are developed on PNE LAB™, our in-house R&D platform, which allows a brand's concept to be translated into a scalable fabric system within the same development framework, rather than building production logic from scratch for every custom request.
### Technical Variations Across VERSWIND®
Within the VERSWIND® product line, P&E explores different technical variations to address specific performance needs. At the Lite level, 4WR2945VD-L uses a 10D N66 ripstop construction at only 30 gsm, combining an ultralight structure with wind resistance and an AIRPASS rating of 3.3 cfm. At the VERSWIND® level, ND1935VD incorporates 5% UHMWPE into a 65 gsm nylon dobby construction, introducing a high-strength fiber alongside downproof protection and an AIRPASS rating of 1.93 cfm. At the Max level, 2WR2120VD-MX applies a 7K/5K waterproof and moisture-permeable micro-porous coating to a 20D ripstop construction, extending the technical approach toward greater weather protection.
### Sustainability system: EARTHMATRIX™
P&E’s EARTHMATRIX™ is a sustainability framework that explores alternative material sources and more circular approaches to functional fabric development. Across the VERSWIND® levels, PFAS-free water repellency is applied as an eco-friendly finishing approach, while selected fabrics further explore alternative recycled material sources. 40FRY-4WD2926VD incorporates 40% fishing-net recycled nylon into a 112 gsm four-way stretch dobby construction, combining downproof protection with an AIRPASS rating of 0.3 cfm. Extending this approach to textile-to-textile recycling, 45GRY-NR1922VD incorporates 45% garment-recycled nylon into a lightweight 20D ripstop construction at 41 gsm, with a downproof finish and an AIRPASS rating of 0.25 cfm.
### Three certifications, each checking something different
OEKO-TEX Standard 100 tests for harmful substances at every production stage, focused on finished-product safety. GRS (Global Recycled Standard) verifies traceability of recycled materials, auditing the chain from raw material to finished product. bluesign System Partner covers systematic management of water, energy, and chemical use, auditing from the source of the production process. ### Production and quality control: Tested in-house before it ships
P&E's production includes woven fabric weaving facilities and functional lamination facilities, paired with an in-house laboratory. Testing happens internally before shipment, rather than relying entirely on third-party checks to catch issues after the fact. This in-house-first, third-party-as-needed model is a common but important part of functional fabric supply chains — it directly affects how consistently specs hold up from sampling through to bulk production.
