Earthmatrix: Bio-Based

‍
Earthmatrix™ is P&E Textile’s sustainability product framework and development philosophy.

At P&E, we believe that sustainability should be considered from the beginning of product development rather than added as a final step. Earthmatrix™ is the framework P&E uses to organize and communicate its sustainable material and textile technologies across different stages of product development. The name Earthmatrix™ represents a matrix of sustainability solutions. It connects different material technologies and textile finishing technologies according to their environmental approach and functional purpose.

Earthmatrix™ is divided into four main technology categories:

Bio-based refers to materials made wholly or partly from renewable biological resources, such as plants, agricultural resources, algae, or microorganisms, rather than relying entirely on fossil-based feedstocks.

Bio-based describes the origin of the raw material, while biodegradable describes how a material can break down under specific conditions at the end of its life. The two may overlap but represent different aspects of sustainability: a bio-based material may or may not be biodegradable, while a biodegradable material may be derived from either bio-based or fossil-based resources.

Related concepts include biosynthetics, which use biological resources as feedstocks to produce synthetic materials. These may include drop-in solutions, which use bio-derived inputs to produce polymers equivalent to conventional materials, as well as alternative biosynthetics, which introduce different polymer or material pathways.

As the textile industry moves toward more sustainable manufacturing, bio-based fibers are becoming an important approach to reducing reliance on fossil-based raw materials. P&E TEXTILE has developed 2WR2379, a 95% bio-based N56 Nylon, 5% elastane ripstop 2-way stretch fabric with C0 DWR and a lightweight construction of 85 g/m² ±5%. P&E also offers a 4-way stretch twill fabric made with sugarcane-based polyester 51RY-4WT2125 . In both fabrics, a portion of the conventional Nylon or polyester raw material is replaced with plant-based bio-based feedstock during fiber production. This is fundamentally different from simply adding a small amount of bio-based powder, additives, or finishing agents to a conventional fiber; the bio-based content is incorporated into the polymer raw material itself.

If your brand is evaluating recycled fishing-net fabric, it's worth confirming your target market's certification and substantiation requirements first, before deciding between GRS or RCS, and whether OEKO-TEX or bluepass should be paired alongside. We can provide the corresponding certification documents and batch traceability data by market.👉(https://www.petextile.com.tw/contact)
